Witness In Booysen Trial Tells Court He Collected Drugs And Money For 27s Gang Across Cape Town Suburbs

A Section 204 witness testifying in the Western Cape High Court on 1 September 2026 told the court that after his initiation into the 27s gang in 2015, he collected and dropped off drugs and money for the gang across Kraaifontein, Rocklands in Mitchells Plain, and Atlantis. According to SABC News, the witness — identified only as Mr B — said he carried out these collections together with accused 11, Kashief Hansloo.

Mr B also told the court he met accused 8, Typhyenne Jantjies, in Kraaifontein, from whom he collected drugs. The testimony forms part of the state’s case against Jerome Booysen and 10 co-accused, who face charges relating to the 2017 murder of Brian Wainstein and multiple counts under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.

The trial has heard extensive evidence from state witnesses about the intersection of gang activity, steroid distribution, and debt collection in Cape Town’s underworld. Earlier reporting by EWN in February 2026 recorded that a witness identified as Mr X testified he distributed illegal steroids on behalf of Brian Wainstein and transported proceeds to a Green Point courier shop allegedly linked to Ralph Stanfield.

Daily Maverick reported in April 2024 that court papers and testimony alleged portions of steroid-business proceeds were paid weekly to individuals identified as Stevens, Booysen, and a person named Naidoo. A state witness quoted by Daily Maverick told the court: “We were paid by Lifman or Wainstein to go and intimidate people who owed us money.”

The testimony from Mr B places alleged drug-running activity in suburbs across the Cape Flats and northern Cape Town, including Atlantis and Kraaifontein, communities long affected by gang-related drug trade. IOL reported in April 2024 that the first state witness in the Wainstein trial described steroid-related business dealings and gang links, consistent with a pattern of evidence emerging across multiple witnesses.

Mr X, as reported by Daily Voice, also told the court that “the conflict started in 2016 between Colin and Naidoo,” pointing to an internal dispute that prosecutors have linked to the events leading to Wainstein’s killing. The trial has drawn testimony connecting the 27s gang structure to organised criminal enterprise spanning nightclubs, debt enforcement, and narcotics distribution.

The specific details of Mr B’s 1 September 2026 testimony — including the named suburbs and his account of collecting drugs with Hansloo and Jantjies — are sourced to SABC News and have not yet been independently confirmed by a second outlet. Cape Flats News journalist Nadia Daniels will next check court records and SAPS Western Coast updates on 3 September 2026 for further corroboration.
