MISA Launches 2026 Graduate Internships For Unemployed

South African graduates seeking practical experience in the public sector are being encouraged to apply for the Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) Internship Programme for 2026–2028. The programme is based in Centurion, Pretoria, and applications close on 14 April 2026. MISA aims to provide hands-on training and professional development for unemployed graduates.

The MISA Graduate Internship Programme spans 24 months and is designed to offer structured workplace experience. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of R7,860.50 throughout the duration of the programme. The initiative is targeted specifically at unemployed graduates who have not previously participated in any internship programme.

MISA’s role in municipal infrastructure planning and service delivery is central to the internship’s objectives. The agency seeks to build capacity within municipalities by equipping interns with both technical and professional skills relevant to government operations.

Several internship positions are available, each with specific qualification requirements. Opportunities include Information Communication Technology (ICT) for those with IT or Computer Systems Engineering backgrounds, Finance for BCom Accounting or Financial Management graduates, Internal Control and Compliance for those with qualifications in Accounting, Auditing, or Risk Management, and Legal Services for LLB or Law degree holders.

Intern Responsibilities And Professional Growth

Interns will be expected to support departmental operations and contribute to various projects within MISA. Duties include administrative and technical tasks, as well as assisting with reporting, compliance, and documentation. The programme is structured to ensure that interns work under supervision and receive mentorship.

The experience is intended to provide exposure to government systems and operations, helping participants develop practical and professional skills. According to MISA, the programme offers, “24 months of structured workplace experience,” and aims to improve employability upon completion.

Impact On Municipal Service Delivery

By participating in the internship, graduates will play a role in enhancing municipal infrastructure and service delivery across South Africa. MISA’s focus on capacity building is reflected in the responsibilities assigned to interns, who will gain insight into the challenges and solutions within the public sector.

The agency highlights the value of the programme for those seeking to make a difference in local government. As stated, “The MISA Internship Programme 2026–2028 is a valuable opportunity for graduates looking to gain real-world experience in the public sector, while contributing to improving municipal infrastructure and service delivery in South Africa.”
