IEC Unveils 2026 Internship Program For Graduates

The Electoral Commission of South Africa is calling on unemployed graduates to apply for its 2026 Internship Programme. The opportunity is based at the National Office in Centurion. Applications close on 21 April 2026.

Internship Programme Details

The Electoral Commission is offering a 24-month internship focused on Civic Education and Research. Two positions are available within the Outreach Department, with each intern receiving a monthly stipend of R10 144.04. The programme is designed for graduates seeking experience in a Chapter 9 constitutional institution, particularly those interested in democratic processes and civic engagement.

Interns will be involved in a range of activities, including administrative support and stakeholder coordination. The Commission highlights that this experience will help participants develop skills relevant to public administration and governance.

Roles And Responsibilities

Successful candidates will assist with general administrative duties related to Civic Education and Research. They will also support the Outreach Management System and help coordinate stakeholder engagement.

Interns will be responsible for compiling and distributing documents, preparing reports and presentations, and taking minutes during meetings. Additional tasks include maintaining filing systems, managing correspondence, and supporting logistics for outreach and research activities.

Eligibility Criteria And Application Requirements

Applicants must have completed Matric, Grade 12, N3, or NTC Level 4, and hold a Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Public Administration or Political Sciences. Only those aged 35 or younger who are currently unemployed and have not previously worked in their field of study or participated in an internship programme are eligible.

The Commission requires strong written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy, and the ability to learn new systems. Good time management, organisational skills, and professionalism are also essential. Preference will be given to people with disabilities.

Selection Process And Important Conditions

Candidates must not have a high political party profile and will undergo risk assessments, including qualification, criminal, and credit checks. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
