Cape Town Businessman Beats Wife in front of his Daughter.

A Concept for Stop Gender Based Violence in South Africa

A Cape Town businessman is facing charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm after a video of him beating his wife in front of his daughter went viral. The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The video, which was shared widely on social media, shows the man repeatedly slapping and punching his wife while their daughter looks on in horror. The woman can be heard screaming for help as her husband continues to hit her.

The couple’s daughter can be heard pleading with her father to stop and eventually manages to get between them and push him away. The man then storms out of the room while his wife is left sobbing on the floor.

The Afriforum organisation claims that the abuse has been going on for many years. In 2018, assault charges were brought against the businessman. However, bail was granted and the attorney said that the mother and child could not testify.

AfriForum stated that it had met with the woman and is ready to move forward with the case. It stated that it had made representations to National Prosecuting Authority, (NPA), and that the matter was re-enrolled. The case has been postponed until next month and the accused has been released on bail. He is not allowed to contact or go near his wife or daughter during this time.
