Detectives and crime scene experts are gathering evidence at a crime scene located in Grassy Park, where a 26 year-old constable was killed and shot this afternoon around 17:45.
The victim and his partner reacted to information about an armed suspect on Blackbird Avenue in Grassy Park. During an altercation, the suspect shot the victim in the chest. His partner escaped unharmed. The suspect fled from the crime scene, and he has yet to be arrested.
On Thursday afternoon, the 26-year-old constable was attacked by an armed suspect in Grassy Park.
Anti-Gang Unit members followed the suspect to Ravensmead, Cape Flats, where he hid late Thursday night.
Andre Traut, police: “The 9mm pistol that he stole in the altercation between the SAPS members was discovered in his possession and taken away.” Hawks investigators are still investigating the circumstances of the incident, while the suspect is appearing in court.
