One Armed Robber Dead, Accomplice Hospitalised Following Crawford Home Invasion

An armed home invasion on Rokeby Road in Crawford, Lansdowne, ended with one suspect dead and another arrested and hospitalised under police guard on the evening of 8 October 2026. The incident occurred around 21:15 when several armed suspects entered the property and demanded cash from the occupants.

Western Cape SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed Lansdowne police opened a house robbery case following the incident. “According to reports, the victims were at home when unknown suspects entered the house armed with firearms and demanded cash,” Twigg said.

He added, “The victims were tied up. We can confirm that shots were fired and one suspect was fatally wounded. A second suspect who was also wounded was later arrested and is in hospital under police guard.” The investigation remains ongoing, with Lansdowne police actively following leads.

Cape Town Etc reported that the invading group involved around ten suspects who were armed and masked, though this number and detail remain unverified by SAPS. Local radio station Smile 90.4FM cited the Lansdowne Community Policing Forum’s Naz Mohidin Karodia, who emphasised the family on the property was unharmed and cautioned the public against speculation: “We do urge our community to allow SAPS to conduct their investigation without interference.”

Community voices also indicated this was a targeted attack. Rashard Davids, from the Civic Association of Rondebosch East, told Daily Voice, “It was a targeted robbery by the suspects.” This statement underscores the serious nature of the incident but has yet to be independently verified by police.

The details of who fired the fatal shot remain unclear. While police confirm shots were fired, no official report has directly attributed the shooting to the homeowner. Some media outlets suggest the father of the household may have confronted the intruders with a firearm, but such claims have not been corroborated by SAPS or official court records.

Home invasions remain a persistent issue in Cape Town’s southern suburbs, where violent property crime continues to strain policing resources and community safety. This incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by families and the complexities involved in responses to armed robberies in residential areas.

Lansdowne police continue their investigation, with cases like this under close watch as part of broader efforts to curb violent crime. More details are expected as the inquiry progresses and the wounded suspect’s condition stabilises under police guard.
