Eastern Cape Unemployed Graduates Win Two-Year Arts Internship

Unemployed graduates in the Eastern Cape are invited to apply for a two year internship programme in the Joe Gqabi District.

Programme Overview

The department is offering a 24 month non renewable internship aimed at unemployed graduates and designed to provide hands on exposure to public service operations. The programme seeks to build practical experience and contribute to addressing youth unemployment by offering a structured placement with a fixed duration.

Selected participants will receive a monthly stipend and be placed within Maletswai in the Joe Gqabi District where they will work on developing concepts and supporting active funded projects. Participation requires that applicants have not previously undertaken an internship and are currently unemployed.

Eligibility And Selection Criteria

Applicants must hold a National Senior Certificate or Matric and a three year degree or National Diploma at NQF Level 6 in fields such as Arts and Culture Studies Arts Management Fine Arts Performing Arts and related disciplines. Additional recognised qualifications in Bachelor of Arts or Social Sciences with relevant majors are acceptable for consideration.

Beyond the academic requirements, candidates should show prior experience in arts administration event planning or related areas and possess knowledge of arts and culture structures and funding institutions. A strong interest in arts culture and community engagement together with good written and verbal communication skills, organisational ability, attention to detail and the capacity to work independently or as part of a team will be valued.

Duties And Responsibilities

Interns will help with developing concept documents and developing budgets and operational plans for projects in the sector. They will assist with monitoring funded arts and culture programmes and contribute to the preparation of project reports. The role includes planning and coordinating events, assisting with exhibitions and festivals, and compiling monthly records.

Other responsibilities involve implementing outreach programmes, assisting with procurement, scheduling meetings, drafting correspondence and maintaining databases. Interns will also be expected to organise meetings, take minutes and engage with artists performers and community partners to strengthen programme delivery and impact.
