Nicole Jacobus Leads Grassroots Push for Community Safety in Grassy Park

Nicole Jacobus, the chairperson of the Grassy Park Community Policing Forum (GPCPF), is spearheading local efforts to address rising violence and improve public safety in the area. Through the forum, she facilitates regular communication between residents and the South African Police Service while advocating for sustainable, long-term security strategies.

Community Engagement and Proactive Policing

The GPCPF has become a critical link in Grassy Park, consistently raising alarms regarding crime hotspots and organising initiatives such as Child Protection Week. In June 2026, the forum issued urgent warnings to the community following a surge in local shootings, pushing for increased police visibility in high-risk zones.

This work is not for the faint-hearted. From dealing with accidents and fires to crowd control and ongoing community engagement, it requires both resilience and passion. For me, the reward is in being able to serve and make a difference in the very area I call home.

Advocacy for Sustainable Safety Solutions

Jacobus has publicly questioned the effectiveness of temporary security measures, such as the deployment of the military, without accompanying structural support. She maintains that lasting safety requires comprehensive strategies, including youth development and deeper community mobilisation.

I welcome the support of the army for our police services, but the question is for how long will they be in our communities. It shouldn’t be announced when the army is going into the area; we must protect the element of surprise.

The GPCPF continues to monitor local crime trends and is expected to hold further consultative meetings with law enforcement officials to evaluate the impact of recent policing interventions.
