South African youth connected to economic opportunities via new digital platform

A new digital initiative aims to address South Africa’s urgent youth unemployment crisis by providing a free-to-use mobile platform that links young people to job placements, bursaries, and training opportunities. With national youth unemployment for those aged 15-24 currently sitting at 60.9%, the platform serves as a vital tool for the 3.9 million South Africans who are currently not in employment, education, or training.

Bridging The Digital Divide

The platform, which reflects an growing trend of zero-rated applications, is designed to override the barrier of high mobile data costs that often prevent work-seekers from accessing digital job portals. By removing these financial hurdles, the initiative ensures that essential information regarding government and private sector vacancies reaches the communities that need it most.

Building On Existing Success

This initiative arrives as part of a broader ecosystem of digital support, including established networks like SA Youth, which has already successfully onboarded over 4 million registered users. These platforms play a critical role in standardising access to information, effectively creating a more transparent labour market for young people across the Cape Flats and the rest of the country.

As the need for scalable employment solutions remains a national priority, stakeholders are expected to continue expanding these digital networks to include more niche vocational training programmes and small business support. Further updates on the platform’s user growth and institutional partnerships are anticipated in the coming months.
