A South African man appeared in court on Tuesday, facing charges related to a brutal assault on a family known for their pro-Palestinian stance. Grayson Beare, 44, has been charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder following an attack that left a mother dead and her husband and son severely injured. The incident occurred on Sunday in a suburb of Durban, according to prosecutors.

“The woman died, and her family members, who were also allegedly stabbed multiple times, were seriously injured,”

stated Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
Police apprehended Beare at the scene of the crime, the victims’ home, in the early hours of Sunday. According to law enforcement, he was found

“in possession of a blood-stained knife.”

The authorities confirmed that

“The woman was declared dead at the scene and the two injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital.”

Initially, detectives were uncertain about the motive behind the attack. However, a significant breakthrough came when a 10-year-old survivor, believed to be the daughter of the deceased woman, informed investigators that

“the suspect stated that he was stabbing them because they supported Palestine.”

The case gained further attention after a video circulated online showing Beare in ankle shackles post-arrest, apparently filmed in a hospital. In the footage, Beare mentions having family in Israel and connects the attack to the victims’ views on the Gaza conflict.

The National Prosecuting Authority has indicated that the court proceedings will resume next week, with the agenda focusing on

“bail investigation and for Beare to undergo mental assessment.”

This tragic incident has shocked the Durban community and has highlighted the potential for international conflicts to incite violence domestically. The court’s upcoming decisions will be closely watched, as they may offer insights into the motivations behind this brutal act and the legal repercussions that will follow.
