Shooting in Bo-Kaap, Cape Town

A man was shot and wounded in Bo-Kaap on Sunday night. The incident occurred shortly before 10pm at a street corner near the Tamboerskloof boundary. Emergency responders secured the area as darkness settled over the historic neighbourhood.

The victim had been standing at the intersection of Lion and Military Roads when violence erupted without warning.

Attack Unfolds At Street Corner

An unknown assailant approached the victim and opened fire.

The shooting took place adjacent to Erf 81, an open plot of land that sits at the edge of this densely populated City Bowl community. The location sits at a transitional point between two distinct neighbourhoods, where foot traffic typically slows during evening hours.

Police records indicate the attack happened at approximately 9.45pm. Medical personnel arrived swiftly to stabilise the victim before transport.

Investigation Continues Without Arrests

Police have registered an attempted murder case but no suspects are in custody.

Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the official police response. The victim received treatment for gunshot wounds after being moved to a medical facility.

“Cape Town Central police have registered an attempted murder case for investigation following the shooting incident on Sunday, 1 March, at approximately 9.45pm, at the corner of Lion and Military Roads in Bo-Kaap, where an adult male was shot and wounded,” Twigg stated.

“Upon arrival at the scene, police members found the victim, who had sustained gunshot wounds to his body. The victim was subsequently transported to a medical facility for further treatment. According to reports, the victim was approached by an unknown suspect who shot him before fleeing the scene.”

Authorities have not disclosed what prompted the attack. The motive remains part of the active investigation.

Police Appeal For Information

Detectives are requesting public assistance to identify the shooter.
