The SACBW Foundation is calling on young South African women in Matric to apply for its 2027 bursary programme. Applications close on 31 August 2026. The initiative targets those who excel academically but face financial barriers to higher education.
Bursary Programme Details And Objectives
The SACBW Foundation NPC is offering financial support to female learners planning to start tertiary studies in 2027. The bursary is designed to help those who have demonstrated strong academic performance and leadership potential but lack the means to fund their studies. Recipients will also be recognised with the Youth Leader Award from the South African Council for Business Women.
The Foundation’s goal is to nurture future female professionals, business leaders, and entrepreneurs who can contribute to the country’s economic growth. Preference is given to applicants interested in fields such as accounting, business management, digital marketing, and entrepreneurship, though other study areas may be considered by the board.
Eligibility Criteria And Application Requirements
Applicants must be South African citizens, female, under 20 years old, and currently completing Matric. A minimum overall academic average of 70% is required, with certified June Matric results forming part of the application. The Foundation also requires proof of financial need, which should be detailed honestly in both the application form and a motivational essay.
All applications must include a completed form, a certified copy of the applicant’s identity document, certified June Matric results, a 250-word motivational essay, and a three-minute video. Missing any of these documents may result in disqualification. The Foundation notes, “Applicants who do not meet all the requirements may not be considered.”
Fields Of Study And Selection Preferences
While the bursary is open to various disciplines, preference is given to those pursuing business, accounting, marketing, and entrepreneurship. The Foundation states that other fields may be considered at the discretion of its board. Applicants are encouraged to clearly indicate their intended field of study and explain their choice in the motivational essay and video.
The selection process will assess eligibility, academic performance, financial need, and the quality of both the essay and video. The Foundation will also consider leadership potential and career ambitions. “Applications will be assessed according to factors such as: Eligibility, Academic performance, Financial need, Quality of the motivational essay, Quality and content of the video, Leadership potential, Career goals, Completeness of the application, Availability of bursary funding.”
Financial Support And Award Details
The bursary funding will be paid directly to the recipient’s tertiary institution. The Foundation has not specified the exact value or which expenses are covered, so applicants are advised to confirm these details directly. It is not guaranteed that the bursary will cover full tuition, accommodation, textbooks, or other costs.
In addition to financial assistance, successful applicants will receive the Youth Leader Award, which recognises academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to personal development. The Foundation notes that this award highlights the recipient’s potential contribution to business and society.
Application Process And Submission Guidelines
Applicants must combine all written documents into a single PDF file, named using their name and surname, and submit it by email. The three-minute video should either be attached or provided as a link. The subject line for the email should read “SACBW Foundation Bursary.” The Foundation advises, “Applications received after the closing date will not be accepted.”
The application form mentions a R199 registration fee, but the Foundation has indicated that applicants may still apply and request a waiver if needed. Those unable to pay the fee should contact the Foundation for guidance and retain proof of any communication regarding the waiver.
Motivational Essay And Video Requirements
Applicants must submit a motivational essay of about 250 words, addressing their background, academic achievements, financial situation, chosen field, and career goals. The essay should be personal and written in the applicant’s own words. A three-minute video is also required, covering similar topics and demonstrating the applicant’s communication skills and ambitions.
The Foundation recommends recording the video in a quiet, well-lit environment and ensuring clear audio. The video may be submitted via email, Dropbox, or WeTransfer, and should not exceed the time limit.
