Cape Town’s rhythm and resilience take centre stage in a bold new collaboration between Reebok South Africa and hip-hop heavyweight YoungstaCPT. The partnership has given birth to the Oh-Two-1, a limited-edition sneaker that pays tribute to the Cape Flats heartbeat, its stories, and the streets that raised one of its most authentic voices.
A Tribute To The 021 And The Spirit Of The Flats
Inspired by Cape Town’s iconic 021 area code, the Oh-Two-1 is more than a sneaker—it is a love letter to the city that shaped it. Every design choice carries meaning, each detail echoing life in the Cape Flats, where resilience and creativity often rise from hardship. From hand-drawn illustrations tracing YoungstaCPT’s personal journey to the shoe’s structure inspired by the classic Reebok Pump OmniZone of the 1990s, the Oh-Two-1 blends nostalgia and narrative in equal measure.
Even the smallest elements tell stories of the city’s rhythm—graffiti spray cans, Metrorail trains, and the unmistakable Cape Town ‘Gatsby’ sandwich all find expression within the shoe’s textures and tones. The outsole captures the rough edges of the city’s pavements, while the gradient of yellow and orange mirrors Table Mountain’s dawn and dusk hues.
“It’s art. It’s history. It’s hustle,”
says YoungstaCPT, summing up a collaboration that channels both personal pride and communal heritage.
From The Streets To The Studio
For YoungstaCPT, this partnership is not merely a business deal but an evolution of his long-standing connection with the brand.
“I’ve been wearing Reebok since I was a kid. You see it in my early photos. Even before the music. This shoe is for my city, for my people. For everyone who built something out of nothing,”
he explains.
His words reflect the very soul of the project—a statement of identity, endurance, and ambition. The Oh-Two-1 serves as a symbol for those who transform struggle into success and creativity into legacy. Limited to only 500 pairs, each individually signed and numbered, the sneaker’s scarcity enhances its symbolic power. Retailing at R3,999, it will be available from October 31st through Reebok.co.za, select Reebok stores, and partners including Sportscene, Studio88, Sneakerdistrict, and Y?Gen.
Legacy In Motion
This collaboration forms part of Reebok South Africa’s Pure Mzansi Gold series, a collection designed to celebrate homegrown excellence. Following previous partnerships with artists such as the late AKA, YoungstaCPT becomes the third South African to design a signature sneaker with the brand—an achievement that reflects both cultural pride and artistic authenticity.
“YoungstaCPT fits the Reebok attitude more than anyone,”
says PJ Morilly of Reebok South Africa.
“He’s a leader. A storyteller. Someone who carved his own path.”
These words encapsulate why this collaboration resonates far beyond the sneaker world. It is a meeting of legacy and innovation, where storytelling meets craftsmanship, and where identity is proudly worn on one’s feet.
The Oh-Two-1 Story Told Like A Mixtape
To celebrate the release, Reebok launched a four-part mini documentary exploring the creation of the Oh-Two-1. Structured like a mixtape, it intertwines the beats, visuals, and memories that fuelled the project. Viewers gain an intimate look at the collaboration’s creative process—from concept sketches to street-level influences—capturing the essence of what makes the Oh-Two-1 more than a product.
This initiative extends beyond marketing; it amplifies community engagement through behind-the-scenes storytelling and interactive activations. Fans are invited to connect with the project in the same spirit of participation and energy that defines YoungstaCPT’s artistry.
