Nasief Morris Launches N5 Arena Five-A-Side Facility In Mitchell’s Plain On Youth Day

Former Bafana Bafana defender Nasief Morris will launch the N5 Arena, a new five-a-side football facility, at Westridge High School in Mitchell’s Plain on Youth Day, 16 June 2026. The project aims to provide a safe space for local youth to engage in football and marks both Youth Day and the 50th anniversary of Mitchell’s Plain.

Facility Designed To Nurture Talent And Community

The N5 Arena is intended to give young people a constructive environment to develop their skills and participate in positive activities. Speaking about his motivation, Morris said, “This project is for the youth, and I thought what better day to do the launch than on Youth Day. On top of that, it’s Mitchell’s Plain’s 50th anniversary, so I’m happy that it’s happening this year.”

Morris, who grew up in Beacon Valley, noted the lack of sporting infrastructure during his own childhood. “We never had facilities like this growing up, so I want to try to make things easier for today’s youth. We all know the talent MP has produced, and I believe that we will be able to develop a lot more footballers from the area. The talent is here; it just needs to be polished and guided in the right direction,” he said.

Local Football Heritage And Future Implications

Mitchell’s Plain has a strong football tradition, having produced talent such as Iqraam Rayners from Tafelsig, who has represented the area at the highest levels. Since his retirement from professional football in 2017, Morris has contributed to the sport through coaching at various clubs, and now seeks to further invest in the next generation.

The launch of the N5 Arena is significant for the Mitchell’s Plain community, aligning with broader efforts to offer safer recreational spaces amid social challenges. By fostering youth engagement, the project aims to reduce risks associated with idle time and offer pathways to sport and mentorship. It also reinforces Mitchell’s Plain’s identity as a centre for top-tier football talent in South Africa.

The N5 Arena’s inaugural event will form part of the community’s Youth Day programme on 16 June. Further details about programming and access are expected following the official opening.
