Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye Arrested After Edenvale Shooting Incident

South African media personality Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye was arrested in Edenvale, Johannesburg, on 14 June 2026, following allegations that he kidnapped an e-hailing driver and discharged a firearm. The incident reportedly occurred at approximately 07:30, shortly after the driver dropped off a female passenger at a local residence.

Investigation And Legal Status

According to police reports, Maarohanye allegedly confronted the driver, accusing him of maintaining a romantic relationship with his girlfriend. The suspect is accused of forcing the driver into a vehicle and firing a shot in his direction, though the driver managed to escape without physical injury and subsequently reported the event to the authorities.

The suspect allegedly forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving. During the incident, the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that Maarohanye faces formal charges of kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and defeating the ends of justice. He is scheduled to appear at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on 15 June 2026 to face these allegations.

Legal History And Context

This arrest marks the latest in a series of legal challenges for the entertainer, who is well-known for his role in the television series Uyajola 9/9. Maarohanye was previously convicted of murder and attempted murder in 2012 related to a fatal drag-racing incident in Soweto in 2010, resulting in a prison sentence from which he was released on parole in 2017.

More recently, in July 2024, the National Prosecuting Authority made the decision to withdraw separate criminal charges against him, which had included allegations of rape, attempted murder, and assault. The current legal proceedings will determine the veracity of the latest accusations as they are tested in the criminal justice system.
