NPA Confirms Firearm Prosecution Against Jub Jub Will Proceed After Rejecting Alternative Resolution

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed it will proceed with the firearm-related prosecution against Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye, rejecting his legal team’s request for an alternative dispute resolution. The matter is set to return to the Germiston Regional Court on 23 November 2026.

According to NPA Gauteng spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole, the Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions found “there is sufficient evidence and reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution.” Maarohanye faces charges of discharging a firearm in a public place and pointing anything likely to lead a person to believe it is a firearm.

The charges arise from an alleged incident in June 2026 involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale. During investigations, police reportedly seized a pellet gun from Maarohanye’s residence, though official reports do not confirm that this pellet gun was the firearm allegedly discharged.

Maarohanye was arrested on 14 June 2026 following the incident and granted R5,000 bail two days later by the Gauteng High Court. The case saw a postponement on 30 October 2026 after the Gauteng DPP declined his bid for alternative dispute resolution.

Mohlatlole emphasised the NPA’s commitment to a fair legal process, stating, “The NPA confirms that the State is ready to proceed with the prosecution and remains committed to ensuring that the matter is dealt with fairly and in accordance with the law.”

The NPA had already announced its readiness for prosecution in September 2026 after finalising its investigations. The details of the alternative dispute resolution request have not been publicly disclosed.

As the case moves forward, it remains important to note that all allegations against Maarohanye are yet to be tested in court, and he remains an accused person. Cape Flats News will continue to monitor the developments closely and provide updates following the November court date.
