May 23, 2023, Maryland – A startling event unfolded at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) conference in Baltimore, where Rodrigo Herzog, a 41-year-old filmmaker from Miami, openly confronted and struck Dr. William Burke, a gynecologist, alleging him of sexually assaulting his wife.

The incident, which quickly became the subject of a widely circulated video, took place during a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Burke. Prior to the altercation, Herzog’s wife, who was once a student under Dr. Burke, raised a question regarding the compliance with sexual misconduct guidelines. Subsequently, Herzog took to the stage and physically assaulted the doctor.
Herzog claimed that Dr. Burke had sexually assaulted his wife seven years earlier in New York, during her time at Columbia University’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, where Dr. Burke was then a faculty member.
In response to the backlash he received, Herzog posted a video on Instagram justifying his actions. He expressed his exasperation and disappointment with those criticizing his conduct and highlighted his intention to protect his wife, whom he alleges was a victim of the assault.
Additionally, in a different video, Herzog’s wife is captured speaking to someone, disclosing that she had previously reported Dr. Burke for harassment at the time of the purported incident.
Despite initial hesitation, Dr. Burke has decided to pursue legal action against Herzog. He underscored that the unequivocal fact in this scenario is his being physically attacked, a moment caught on camera.
Columbia University Irving Medical Center has announced they are investigating the claims against their former staff member, Dr. Burke, who departed from the university in 2017.
The Baltimore police have stated that as of now, Dr. Burke faces no criminal charges.
