Karabo Mogane, winner of Idols SA season 11, ended a six-year music hiatus with the release of a new single, Only 4 U, in October 2026. The announcement was confirmed by Mogane himself and reported by the Sowetan on 1 October 2026.
Since winning Idols SA in November 2015, Mogane launched his debut album Love is a Verb shortly afterwards. However, between 2019 and 2025, he did not release music consistently. In an interview with the Sowetan, Mogane explained the gap, saying: “A lot happened during that time. I got married in 2021, got into business, went back to school and became a father.”
Earlier reports revealed that Mogane was working on independent music projects since 2021. That year, TimesLIVE covered his shift to releasing music independently and his payment of lobola to Sinesipho Mbandazayo. By February 2025, News24 reported Mogane was finishing his third studio album and noted his recent fatherhood.
Despite the break from steady releases, Mogane remained active in the music scene. He told News24 in May 2022, “It’s amazing to be back on stage, it’s been tough to be honest because this is our livelihood.” His return this year marks a fresh chapter in his career.
This six-year interval is considered a hiatus based on Mogane’s own account of reduced music output from 2019 to 2025, although precise details about the length and timing of the break vary slightly across sources. Still, his 2026 release confirms the end of a significant pause in his recording career.
As of now, detailed plans for the rollout of Only 4 U have not been publicly shared beyond the Sowetan report. Mogane has indicated ongoing work on an EP and a new album, with finalisation of release dates and artwork underway, according to a 2025 News24 interview.
Karabo Mogane’s return to music follows major personal milestones and aligns with his transition to independence in the industry. His progress will likely be followed closely by fans and observers interested in South Africa’s evolving music landscape.
