The Institute of Information Technology Professionals South Africa (IITPSA) is set to host its inaugural Workforce Intelligence Conference on 30 October 2026 in Johannesburg. The event aims to address the rapid integration of artificial intelligence within the sector and its subsequent influence on recruitment, job security, and professional development.
Addressing AI Disruption In The Workplace
During the conference, the organisation will release findings from the 2026 ICT Skills Survey, which is currently gathering insights from employers and practitioners across the country. The survey, conducted by Africa Analysis, seeks to provide empirical data on how tools such as generative and agentic AI are actively restructuring local workplaces.
AI is potentially the most disruptive technology in the modern workplace. As AI adoption grows, key questions are: Will ICT jobs be lost? Will employers upskill and reassign workers to higher value roles? And do ICT professionals see AI as a threat or an opportunity?
Speaking on the necessity of the study, IITPSA President Pearl Pasi highlighted the urgent need to understand the human element behind technological transition. Kelvin Nhlapo, the IITPSA General Manager, added that the survey aims to assess professional sentiment and forecast regional job changes in the short to medium term.
Broadening Industry Understanding
The conference serves as a strategic platform to bridge the gap between evolving technical capabilities and the readiness of the South African workforce. By engaging both industry leaders and individual practitioners, the IITPSA hopes to offer a evidence-based perspective on the potential for job displacement versus the prospect of upskilling staff for higher-value roles. The event will conclude with the annual IITPSA President’s Awards, which recognise outstanding achievements by local information technology professionals. Industry stakeholders expect further clarity on labour trends following the release of the survey results in the third quarter of 2026.
