Five suspects aged between 20 and 24 are in police custody facing murder charges following the fatal shooting of a 40-year-old man in Blikkiesdorp, Delft. The incident, recorded as a ‘Code Blue’ event by emergency services, occurred at a property in P Block between September 1 and September 6, 2026.
According to investigations, the victim, who was known to the community as ‘G’, was killed when he was shot through the front door of his home. The shooting took place shortly after he returned from dropping his children off at school, an act of violence that has left local residents shaken and demanding greater security measures in the area.
Police confirmed that the five suspects were apprehended following a swift response to the scene. The case is now being processed through the criminal justice system as investigators gather evidence against the accused.
“People here are scared to even open their doors in the morning because you don’t know who is watching. We are not safe, and this latest tragedy proves that it can happen to anyone at any time,” said a long-term resident who contacted our news desk at 08:30 today to express the community’s mounting anxiety.
Blikkiesdorp, a high-density temporary relocation area, has seen persistent challenges with gang-related violence. The presence of firearms in the settlement has been a long-standing concern for the local CPF and neighbourhood watches, who often struggle to combat the influence of organised crime syndicates operating in the broader Delft precinct.
This violent incident follows a series of reports regarding escalating crime rates across the Western Cape. While five suspects have been arrested, police have yet to release further details on the specific motive behind the attack on ‘G’, nor have they confirmed if the suspects have any known gang affiliations.
The current report regarding a female victim being killed in the area remains unconfirmed; we are checking with SAPS Delft to determine if there is any merit to these circulating claims. Cape Flats News journalists were on the scene in P Block earlier today to observe the ongoing police patrols.
It is currently unknown when the five suspects will make their first appearance in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court. Our team will check in with the SAPS communications office on Monday morning for updates on the investigation and any scheduled court dates.
