ANC deputy president, Paul Mashatile, recently stated that the African National Congress (ANC) requires an additional 30 years to achieve their goals of building houses, creating job opportunities, constructing roads and infrastructure, and ensuring service delivery to all South Africans.
Mashatile acknowledged the progress made over the past three decades but urged the public to grant the party more time to fulfill their long-standing commitments and reach more citizens.
In 1994, when the ANC was elected to power, they promised a “better life” for all citizens. Despite notable advancements, challenges remain.
“Some are still unemployed and some still struggle to take their children to schools, we want to reach everybody,”
Mashatile emphasized.
He continued by stating,
“So, we need another 30 years of leading this country to a better life. We have worked hard for the last years but we need more but we can only get through your votes.”
Mashatile made these remarks while addressing the community of Kanana in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, on Tuesday. This was part of the ANC’s campaign trail to boost efforts to win the upcoming elections. During his visit, Mashatile engaged with several communities in the area to garner support for the ANC ahead of the national and provincial elections scheduled for May 29, 2024.
Driving through Hammanskraal, one could observe locals carrying water bottles to purchase water. This reflects a long-standing issue in the community.
Residents have faced water shortages for decades, as highlighted by Anna Seabe, a local resident.
“You see, I am from the shop to refill my water bottles because water is a problem but we hope after the elections that all will be well,”
Seabe shared.
Despite these hardships, Mashatile was warmly received by the community. Some residents even voiced their continued support for the ANC.
“We will vote for the ANC, don’t worry,”
shouted several community members.
