Two adult men were killed and a woman wounded in a shooting shortly after 8am on 6 October at Muir Court, Depsiton Crescent, Lavender Hill, according to Steenberg police. Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed police responded to a shooting complaint and found the victims with gunshot wounds. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police investigations have been opened for murder and attempted murder, with the suspects remaining at large. Sergeant Twigg told CapeFlats.co.za, “The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”
Steenberg Community Policing Forum chairperson Nicola Small condemned the use of firearms in the area, saying, “The use of firearms and violence in our communities is unacceptable and continues to place innocent residents at risk.” She urged anyone with information to come forward.
An unnamed resident interviewed by Daily Voice described the shooting as occurring around 7:30am while learners were walking to school. They claimed it was a drive-by shooting and said the deceased were reportedly members of the Mongrels gang, with the woman shot in the arm. These details remain unverified and have not been confirmed by the police.
