Upon arrival, police found the woman partially clothed with her head positioned inside a trench adjacent to the fence. Emergency medical services declared her dead at the scene. A bag containing the deceased’s identity document and NSFAS card was located nearby. The woman’s identity has not yet been publicly released.

Brig Hlulani Mashaba, Limpopo police spokesperson, said officers were on patrol when they received information about the victim. “Police were on patrol duties when they received information about a female victim found lying motionless along the campus fence and rushed to the scene,” he said.

He added that the body inspection revealed no visible external injuries. “The body was inspected, and no visible external injuries were observed at the scene.” Police have not ruled out any possibilities but indicated preliminary information suggests the woman may have accidentally fallen into the trench. This, however, remains under investigation.

The University of Limpopo expressed sadness over the student’s passing. In a statement, the university said, “The death of any student is deeply painful and regrettable.” They appealed to the public to avoid speculation while investigations proceed and said verified information would be shared when appropriate.

The circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death are still being investigated as police continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses. No further details have been released regarding the cause of death or potential involvement of others. The university campus and surrounding community await more information as the inquiry proceeds.
