Lawrence Mudzinganyama is set to appear at the Randburg Magistrates Court on 1 October 2026 after being identified in a viral video threatening women at the Vlamo restaurant in the Sandton Gate complex. The incident, which occurred on 18 September 2026, has resulted in the loss of his corporate role and the cancellation of his residential lease.
Vlamo restaurant management reported the altercation to the South African Police Service (SAPS) on 19 September 2026. A case has been officially opened and is currently under investigation.
“The aggressive and threatening language I used was unacceptable and unjustifiable, regardless of the circumstances that led to the disagreement.”
Following the emergence of the footage, Moriel Infrastructure Group confirmed it had severed ties with Mudzinganyama, who previously served as the company’s executive chairman. In a statement, the organisation declared that he would no longer represent, speak for, or act on behalf of the group in any capacity.
“He will no longer represent, speak for, or act on behalf of Moriel Infrastructure Group in any capacity.”
The incident has also drawn national government attention. Transport Minister Barbara Creecy has directed the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) to conduct a formal review of the appointment of Moriel Infrastructure Group regarding active contracts on the N1 and N2 highways. This review highlights the broader consequences that personal conduct incidents can have on corporate entities holding public sector tenders.
Separately, management at Steyn City has confirmed that they have terminated Mudzinganyama’s lease agreement. This comes as the public continues to condemn the actions depicted in the video, reinforcing the heightened focus on gender-based violence (GBV) issues across the country.
