The illicit cargo was discovered at the airport’s cargo section at approximately 13:00 after arriving on a flight from São Paulo, Brazil.

The operation was carried out through an intelligence-driven approach involving the SAPS Crime Intelligence Border Integrity Unit, the SAPS Visible Policing Unit, Customs officials, and Menzies Aviation personnel. National Police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, confirmed the recovery of the drugs immediately upon the cargo’s arrival at the facility.
The cargo, which had arrived on a flight from São Paulo, Brazil, was intercepted immediately upon arrival at approximately 1 pm. The 95 kilograms of cocaine were seized at the cargo section of OR Tambo International Airport.
No arrests have been made in connection with the seizure, and police have launched an investigation into the origin and intended destination of the consignment. Brigadier Mathe reiterated the SAPS’s dedication to dismantling organised criminal networks and preventing the exploitation of the country’s ports of entry.
