Renowned former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has been spotted immersing himself in the lively atmosphere of Cape Town, South Africa, much to the delight of local football fans. His presence in the Mother City has sparked excitement, with many eager to catch a glimpse of the celebrated coach. However, Klopp’s visit is not solely for leisure—his time in South Africa carries a deeper purpose linked to a cause close to his heart.
Klopp, now serving as the Head of Global Football at Red Bull, is in the country to lend his support to the Hout Bay United Football Community (HBUFC), an initiative he has been backing since 2017. The organisation, known for its dedication to grassroots football, provides young players with opportunities to develop their talent while fostering social unity within the community.
His long-standing commitment to HBUFC has helped elevate the organisation’s visibility on an international scale. As highlighted in online reports:
“Klopp’s involvement with HBUFC has helped bring global attention to the cause. His heart for grassroots football and belief in its potential to change lives made him the perfect figure to help fuel HBUFC’s journey.”
As part of his visit, Klopp will be the main attraction at a fundraising event for HBUFC, set to take place at The Bay Harbour Market on 6 March. The evening is designed to not only raise funds but also provide fans with an opportunity to engage with the football legend.
One of the key highlights of the event will be intimate locker-room-style conversations featuring local football figure Sizwe Mbebe. Enthusiasts who attend will also be treated to a live question-and-answer session with Klopp, giving them a chance to connect with him on a personal level and gain insights from his vast experience in the game.
Adding to the night’s entertainment, Miss South Africa finalist Saskia Falken will serve as the event’s host, ensuring a well-curated evening of engagement and inspiration. The atmosphere will be further enhanced by live music performances from Just Jinjer frontman Ard Matthews.
In an effort to maximise support for HBUFC’s mission, the event will also feature a live auction hosted by actor and comedian Rob van Vuuren. Special edition items will go under the hammer, with all proceeds directly benefiting the football community’s ongoing work in empowering young athletes.
Attendees eager to be part of this exclusive experience can secure their tickets for R2,000 via Quicket. Doors will open at 17:00, with food stalls and a bar available before the formal programme kicks off.
