14-Year-Old Allegedly Rams Car Into Couple Outside KwaDukuza School

A 14-year-old boy allegedly drove a black VW Citi Golf into Nathan and Verosha Naidu outside Glenhills Secondary School in KwaDukuza on 21 August 2026, after the couple confronted him for spinning the car near exiting schoolchildren. The teenager appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on 24 August facing two counts of attempted murder, reckless and negligent driving, driving without a licence, unauthorised use of a vehicle, and pointing a firearm.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Captain Ntathu Ndlovu confirmed that four males, aged 14,16,16 and20, were arrested shortly after the incident on Uranus Drive. Only the case against the 14-year-old driver was enrolled in court.

Nathan Naidu, speaking to reporters from his hospital bed, said he and his wife walked to the school just before2.:30 pm after hearing a commotion while worried about their three daughters. He described finding the teenager spinning his car dangerously close to the gate.

“We told him to stop spinning the vehicle, as there were schoolchildren who would exit the school gate and they might be injured,” Naidu said. “He became angry and pulled out a firearm and pointed it at us, threatening to shoot us for speaking to him about spinning the car dangerously around schoolchildren.”

The Naidus have told media that the driver then accelerated, mounting the pavement and hitting them both. CCTV footage captured the black Golf striking the couple before speeding away.

IPSS Medical Rescue treated the pair at the scene. Spokesperson Samantha Meyrick said paramedics found injuries consistent with a vehicle impact, and they transported the couple to General Justice Gizenga Mpanza Regional Hospital.

Verosha Naidu’s ring finger was amputated after the car’s tyre ran over her hand. Her husband Nathan sustained injuries to his shoulder, neck and back, while she also suffered lower back, leg and head trauma.

Nathan Naidu told reporters his three school-going daughters witnessed the incident. He said the family is now struggling because he is the sole breadwinner and cannot work.

“This has affected us so badly,” he said. “With me injured, I cannot work. We hope justice will be served.”

The teen was released into the care of a guardian after his court appearance. The matter has been referred to the Child Justice Court and postponed to2 October 2026.

Police have not confirmed Nathan Naidu’s claim that the teenager pointed a firearm, though the charge sheet includes pointing a firearm as one of the six counts. CapeFlats.co.z journalists could not independently verify the firearm allegation before publication.

The case will next be heard on2 October 2026 at the Child Justice Court, where the teenager’s legal process under the Child Justice Act will begin. CapeFlats.co.z will provide an update after that proceedings.
