Heart of Midlothian has officially appointed Wouter Vrancken as its new head coach, securing the Belgian manager on a two-year deal effective from 25 June 2026. The 47-year-old takes over following the departure of Derek McInnes, who led the club to a second-place finish in the Scottish Premiership last season.

When it became apparent we were going to need a new head coach, we obviously have the support of the analytics side to flag up the best candidates, but Wouter was definitely a standout within that.
Speaking at a media briefing, Jones emphasised that the integration of specialised analytical tools is no longer optional for clubs aiming to compete at the top of the table. Vrancken arrives at Tynecastle Park with a reputation for tactical development, having guided Sint-Truiden to a third-place finish in the Belgian Pro League during the 2025/26 season. His move to Scotland represents his first coaching position outside of the Belgian league system, signalling a shift toward international experience for the Edinburgh side.
