A 28-year-old woman died after being attacked by three pit bulls in Woodlands, Montclair, Durban, on the evening of 2 July 2026. The incident occurred at approximately 23:00 at the intersection of Atherstone Avenue and Norwich Crescent, where the victim was intercepted by the dogs.

By then it was too late because the victim had already suffered severe facial injuries. The dogs grabbed her by the neck and pulled her to the ground. A DSS guard tried to remove the dogs, unfortunately they would not let go of the woman. He had to shoot the dogs to force them to release the victim. Two died, while the third sustained injuries.
This statement was provided by Police spokesperson Constable Norah Ndlovu, who confirmed that a Durban South Security (DSS) guard intervened by shooting the animals when his attempts to assist the victim proved unsuccessful.
