Two businessmen were killed in a brazen armed robbery in Ormonde, Johannesburg, after a convoy transporting cash was ambushed by heavily armed suspects.
The incident unfolded in dramatic fashion, with attackers launching a coordinated strike that quickly escalated into a high-speed chase and shootout.
Among those killed was Yusuf Modan, who displayed remarkable courage during the attack. Despite the immediate danger, Modan reportedly turned back to assist colleagues who had come under fire. By that stage, Abdul Hamid Moosa had already sustained fatal injuries.
Modan was later shot and killed while confronting the assailants, in what witnesses have described as a selfless attempt to protect others. A security guard accompanying the convoy was seriously injured during the exchange.
The suspects, armed with high-calibre weapons, managed to seize an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene. During the shootout, one of the attackers was killed and another wounded, while the remaining suspects escaped.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for those involved, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the attack and the broader criminal network believed to be behind it.
