Ali Larijani has rejected US military threats. The exchange marks a sharp escalation in rhetoric between Washington and Tehran.
Larijani dismissed Trump’s warning on Telegram with characteristic bluntness.
Even those greater than you could not eliminate the Iranian nation. Be careful not to be eliminated!
The message signals Tehran’s refusal to bow to external pressure.
Fresh strikes have devastated parts of the Iranian capital. At least forty people died in the latest bombardment of Tehran alone. The total civilian death toll on the Iranian side has now surpassed 1,300.
Trump has kept open the possibility of renewed negotiations. He maintained his harsh criticism of Mojtaba Khamenei, who assumed the supreme leadership after his father’s death.
The Israel Defense Forces has issued chilling warnings against anyone accepting the position.
Trump Calls Putin
Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with US President Donald Trump in a phone call initiated by the American leader to address recent global developments.
According to Ushakov, the discussion centered on two key topics: the escalating conflict in Iran and trilateral negotiations between Moscow, Washington, and Kiev to resolve the war in Ukraine. The Kremlin official characterized the exchange as “business-like, open and constructive,” noting that both presidents agreed to maintain regular communication going forward. The call lasted approximately one hour.
Ushakov reported that Trump reiterated the United States’ commitment to ending hostilities between Russia and Ukraine and securing a durable peace settlement. Putin expressed gratitude for the Trump administration’s ongoing mediation role.
The Russian president also briefed his American counterpart on his recent diplomatic engagements with Gulf state leaders and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian regarding the Iran situation, while Trump shared his own perspective on the matter. Ushakov described their exchange on Iran as particularly “substantive.”
Speaking to reporters later Monday, Trump praised the conversation as “a very good call,” confirming that both the Iran conflict and what he termed the “never-ending fight” in Ukraine were on the agenda.
The leaders’ previous phone conversation took place in December.
