The Pretoria Magistrate’s Court denied bail to three men, Goitsione Machidi, 25, McClaren Mushwana, 30, and Thabang Kenneth Mothwa, 27, on 23 June 2026. The suspects face charges of premeditated murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances related to the killing of 23-year-old Isaac Satlat in Atteridgeville on 11 February 2026.
Legal Proceedings And Prior Criminal History
According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, all six accused initially abandoned their bail applications before Machidi, Mushwana, and Mothwa changed their approach. The three requested release on bail, arguing the State’s case against them was weak, but the magistrate ultimately ruled that the prosecution had established a strong prima facie case.

It was revealed during proceedings that one of the accused, Thabang Kenneth Mothwa, was already out on bail for a separate matter involving the possession of a vehicle in Cullinan at the time of the murder. The remaining co-accused, Dikeledi Tears Mphela, Tumishang Mabutla, and Ofentse Senwamadi, had previously chosen to abandon their bail applications entirely.

The case has highlighted significant frustrations regarding the safety of e-hailing workers. Reports indicate that Bolt, the company through which the victim was operating, refused to provide compensation to the Satlat family, stating that the vehicle was being managed via a profile registered to another individual in violation of company policy. This incident has raised concerns regarding the vetting processes and account sharing practices within the e-hailing sector.
The six accused, who allegedly acted in common purpose, are scheduled to appear in court again on 1 September 2026 as investigators continue their work. This further postponement will allow the State to finalise its evidence before the trial moves to the next phase.
