Ten people were killed and eleven others wounded in a shooting at a shisanyama in Lwandle, Cape Town, on Sunday, 27 September 2026, at approximately 01:46, police confirmed.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) reported that five victims died at the scene, while five more succumbed to their injuries after being transported to medical facilities. The eleven injured individuals remain under medical care following the attack.
“Official police reports indicate that gunmen entered an entertainment venue that also sells braaied meat (shisanyama) at approximately 01:46 and shot at patrons,” said a SAPS statement. Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt-Gen Sizakhele Dyantyi described the scene, adding, “It seems that they were braaing meat.
Lwandle police immediately opened cases of murder and attempted murder, and a multidisciplinary team led by detectives specialising in serious violent crime has been tasked with investigating the incident. Durbanville police have yet to make any arrests, with Lt-Gen Dyantyi stating, “Detectives are hard at work in search of the perpetrators of the shooting incident with no arrests effected yet.”
The identities of those killed have not been released, pending notification of their next of kin. Police have increased patrols and operational presence in Lwandle while the search for the gunmen continues.
