Sundowns announce signing of Antonio van Wyk

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially announced the signing of 24-year-old winger Antonio van Wyk from Austrian club SV Ried on a long-term contract. The former Stellenbosch FC player returns to South African football following a successful two-season stint in Europe, where he made 53 appearances and helped his side secure promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga.

European Stint And Tactical Reinforcement

Van Wyk’s transfer is reported to have involved a fee of just over one million Euros, marking the highest transfer sale in the history of SV Ried. The addition of the versatile attacker aligns with the club’s strategy to bolster its squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, as the reigning Betway Premiership champions look to maintain their dominance both domestically and in continental competition.

“Spending time away has been an incredible experience that helped me grow both as a footballer and as a person. This is one of the biggest clubs on the continent and a club with a rich history, high standards and a winning culture,” said Van Wyk during the official announcement.

Community Roots And Professional Growth

A product of the Ubuntu Football Academy, Van Wyk originally caught the eye during his time in the Premier Soccer League before moving to Austria in September 2024. His return to the country is expected to provide significant depth to the Sundowns attack as they prepare for a demanding season schedule.

“To the supporters, your passion for this club is unmatched and I can’t wait to experience that energy of match day as I’m excited for this journey,” he added.

The club is expected to integrate Van Wyk into training immediately ahead of the impending pre-season tour.
