State Advocate Drushantha Ramsamy resumes testimony at Madlanga Commission

State Advocate Drushantha Ramsamy of the Investigative Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) resumed her testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on 4 August 2026. Ramsamy first appeared before the commission on 30 July 2026, one day after her former superior, Advocate Andrea Johnson, concluded her own testimony.

Allegations Of Interference And Misconduct

During her proceedings, Ramsamy presented evidence including a recording of a 22 July 2026 telephone conversation. In the audio, Johnson allegedly advised Ramsamy to avoid appearing before the commission, stating: “Figure out how you don’t go.”

Ramsamy further alleged that IDAC leadership, specifically Johnson and chief investigator Dylan Perumal, orchestrated a campaign against Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo and suspended National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola. She also played a portion of the recording where Johnson purportedly admitted to professional malpractice, stating: “I already abused my power by not asking where these names came from.”

Commission Response And Procedural Implications

The commission, chaired by Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, is currently investigating allegations of corruption, political interference, and misconduct within the criminal justice system. Following the submission of the recording and related claims, Justice Madlanga ordered that a Rule 3 notice be served on Andrea Johnson to facilitate a formal response to the allegations.

These developments follow a December 2024 report by Ramsamy concerning a Section 27 affidavit provided by Johnson, which Ramsamy claims differs significantly from the version later submitted to the commission. The inquiry is expected to continue as the panel evaluates the procedural irregularities raised regarding the IDAC’s high-profile investigations.
