The South African Police Service (SAPS) has deployed additional personnel across multiple provinces in anticipation of nationwide protests scheduled for 30 June 2026. National police leadership stated that the increased visibility of security forces is a routine operational measure designed to maintain public order rather than an attempt to stifle demonstrations.

Speaking in response to public concerns, a SAPS national spokesperson emphasised that the current deployments are grounded in standard operational procedures to protect citizens and property. The service maintains that it is not their intention to infringe upon the constitutional right to protest as protected under Section 17 of the Bill of Rights.
“The deployment of our members is part of our standard operational procedure to ensure the safety of all citizens and their property; it is not, and never will be, our intention to infringe upon the constitutional right to protest,” the spokesperson said.
The National Police Commissioner added that intelligence-led operations are currently monitoring potential hotspots across the country to mitigate risks of civil unrest. While the police have not disclosed the exact number of officers mobilised, citing operational security reasons, they confirmed that law enforcement would remain vigilant.
