Russia’s Fuel Crisis Intensifies Amid Increased Ukrainian Drone Strikes

Ukrainian drone strikes have targeted oil facilities in Russia and Russian-occupied Crimea, causing fires at key sites including the Grushovaya oil base in Krasnodar Krai and fuel depots in Feodosia. This escalation has led to significant fuel shortages across Russia, with at least 57 regions reporting disruptions as a result of the ongoing conflict.

Widespread Fuel Shortages

As a consequence of these attacks, approximately 40% of Russia’s refining capacity is reportedly offline, affecting urban areas such as St. Petersburg, Belgorod, Kursk, and occupied Luhansk. The disruption has forced the introduction of fuel rationing and has resulted in long queues at petrol stations.

Impact on Daily Life

In occupied Crimea, residents are facing severe fuel shortages, leading to travel delays and strict purchases restrictions. Russian officials have characterised the situation as ‘temporary’, despite evidence suggesting that the crisis may continue for an extended period due to the persistent nature of the strikes.
