Cristiano Ronaldo, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, enjoyed a stellar season in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Nassr, finishing as the league’s top scorer. However, this remarkable form has not carried over to his Euro 2024 campaign.
So far, Ronaldo has managed just one assist and has failed to score in the group stages of the competition. Despite this, he has expressed his determination on social media ahead of Portugal’s last-16 match against Slovenia.
The Portuguese captain took to Instagram to share a series of photos in his national team gear, captioned:
“Let’s go Portugal!”
This post comes amid growing scrutiny regarding Ronaldo’s place in the starting lineup. Questions have been directed at Portugal’s head coach, Roberto Martinez, concerning Ronaldo’s performance in recent major tournaments, including the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
During that tournament, Ronaldo did not meet expectations and was eventually dropped by then-coach Fernando Santos. Despite this history, Martinez has been firm in his decision to keep the five-time Champions League winner in the team.
“Let’s go Portugal!”
Ronaldo is set to lead Portugal on Monday, July 1, as they face Slovenia in the round of 16 at Deutsche Bank Park.
