Ramaphosa chairs virtual Global Leaders Network meeting on AfCFTA implementation

President Cyril Ramaphosa is chairing a virtual meeting of the Global Leaders Network (GLN) today, 14 August 2026, to discuss international socio-economic development and sustainable growth strategies. The forum brings together international heads of state to address the integration of African markets within the broader global economy.

A primary focus of today’s talks is the practical implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The government is utilising this platform to advocate for trade reforms that support African industrialisation and mitigate the effects of recurring supply chain disruptions.

The President will lead discussions on the role of emerging economies in driving a more equitable global trade system.

The engagement highlights South Africa’s ongoing efforts to position itself as a key voice for the Global South. By pushing for a more balanced trade architecture, the administration aims to counteract inflationary pressures that have constrained growth across the continent.

Specific details regarding the list of global leaders participating in the session remain unconfirmed as we are currently checking with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation and presidential media staff. The official communique or outcome document has not yet been released as the meeting is ongoing.

We will provide an update once the Presidency releases the final resolutions of today’s session.
