The residents of Parkwood awoke to the sound of gunfire on Tuesday morning, following the fatal shooting of a man known in the community by the alias Padvark. The incident, which occurred in Blackbird Avenue shortly before dawn, has left many grappling with both fear and unanswered questions about ongoing violence in the area.
Shooting in the Early Hours
At around 4.40am, shots rang out in front of a small local shop. According to police, the victim, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead on the scene by medical personnel. Authorities believe the murder is linked to gang activity, which has long plagued parts of the Cape Flats.
A community member, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the victim’s reputation in the neighbourhood.
“He was a problem,”
the resident said, reflecting sentiments that suggest the man was not without controversy.
Police Confirmation and Investigation
Grassy Park police officers were dispatched after reports of gunfire were received. Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, the police spokesperson, confirmed that the investigation is still in progress.
“Grassy Park police responded to a complaint in the early hours of Tuesday 30 September 2025. Upon arrival in Blackbird Avenue, Parkwood at about 4.40am, they found the body of an unidentified man who sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel.”
According to Swartbooi, the perpetrators remain unidentified and at large.
“The unknown suspects fled the scene and they are yet to be arrested. The motive for this attack is believed to be gang related. Grassy Park Police are investigating a murder.”

Authorities have urged the public to assist in the investigation. Police have called on anyone with knowledge about the shooting to come forward.
