Msunduzi Municipality Withholds Expenditure on Vandalised Youth Centre

The Msunduzi Municipality has declined to disclose the total expenditure incurred on an Edendale youth centre project that has been left incomplete and stripped by vandals. Construction on the site, which was intended to provide skills training and recreational facilities for the community, first commenced in 2018 but has since been abandoned.

Investigation And Financial Uncertainty

Local reports confirm that the structure has been systematically looted of essential infrastructure, including electrical wiring, windows, and doors. When questioned on the project’s costs and the status of the development, the municipal spokesperson stated: “The municipality is currently conducting an internal assessment to determine the status of the project and the financial implications.”

Community Impact And Long-Term Delays

The site has remained stagnant for several years due to a combination of contractor disputes and administrative challenges, leaving residents without the promised youth development hub. The deterioration of the building has become a flashpoint for community frustration, with many locals viewing the site as a symbol of broader municipal failure and the loss of public funds in an area battling high youth unemployment.
