Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye Maintains Innocence After Edenvale Arrest

Television personality Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has publicly denied the criminal charges brought against him following his arrest on 14 June 2026, stemming from an alleged altercation with an e-hailing driver in Edenvale. Maarohanye appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on 22 June 2026, where he remains out on R5,000 bail as the legal proceedings continue.

Investigation And Legal Status

The state initially charged Maarohanye with kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public place, and defeating the ends of justice. Following further investigation, the firearm-related charge was revised to pointing an object likely to make a person believe it is a firearm, after authorities reportedly discovered only a pellet gun at the residence associated with the accused.

“I’m shocked at the allegations. They are saying that I kidnapped my girlfriend, [who is] dating an Uber driver. I don’t know, man. I’m just complying and appearing,” Maarohanye said during the legal proceedings.

Context And Background

The latest legal challenge follows a history of high-profile cases involving the presenter, including a 2010 culpable homicide conviction for a drag-racing accident that resulted in the deaths of four children. More recently, in 2024, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) withdrew separate charges against him, including rape, attempted murder, and assault, due to a lack of reasonable prospects of successful prosecution. Regarding the current matter, Maarohanye maintained his innocence, stating, “In anything relating to me, it’s always God. Before I step into the room, God is there, and the truth shall prevail.”

The matter is scheduled to return to court on 24 August 2026 for further investigation.
