Saadiq Rajap, 54, was sentenced to 15 years’ direct imprisonment by the Mitchells Plain Regional Court on 29 September for the rape and sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl, offences that took place on 10 April 2024. In addition to the direct prison term, five years of the sentence were suspended for five years, while a five-year sentence for sexual assault was wholly suspended for the same period.
The court ordered that Rajap’s name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders. He was also declared unsuitable to work with children and unfit to possess a firearm.
During proceedings, Rajap admitted to touching the child and acknowledged her minor status, describing his actions as driven by being “lustful.” He reportedly told the court, “it was wrong for an adult to ask a child to engage in sexual activity.”
