Man B Tyekana Attempted Murder Case Postponed for Further Investigation

By Sizwe Mkhize

The trial of record label owner Mlindelwa ‘Man B’ Tyekana and his two co-accused, charged with the attempted murder, kidnapping and assault of two teenagers in Amalinda, KuGompo City, has been postponed to 3 November 2026. The case was adjourned at the KuGompo City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to allow for further investigations, according to an SABC News report.

Tyekana, alongside former police officer Siyasanga Mashologu and Daluxolo Willie, faces charges stemming from a May 2026 incident. The three men were arrested on 15 May by the serious violent crimes unit and detained at Cambridge police station before being granted R5 000 bail each on 27 May by Magistrate Kevin von Brett, after a series of delays.

During the earlier bail hearing, the court heard that the victims, both 16, were allegedly picking guavas near Tyekana’s property when they were chased. One boy was shot twice in the stomach and remains in the intensive care unit at Frere Hospital. The other was allegedly kidnapped and assaulted, TimesLIVE reported.

Mashologu’s status as an ex-policeman with a previous attempted murder conviction — currently under appeal in the Constitutional Court — added to community anger. Thembisa Malgas, aunt of the wounded boy, told TimesLIVE the family was devastated by the bail decision.

“We wanted him not to be granted bail, but it has been postponed. We feel very hurt by the decision to shoot our child. We also live in fear because we heard they know where we live.”

Magistrate von Brett imposed strict bail conditions, including that the accused not contact any state witnesses. “They have given the investigating officer their co-operation. I have concluded that they can be safely released on bail. They are certainly not a flight risk, and I believe bail conditions will be sufficient to keep them away from the witnesses,” von Brett said at the time.

The trial was initially set down for 16 July 2026. The new date comes after the state requested more time to complete its investigation. The exact scope of the outstanding work was not disclosed in the brief court session.

CapeFlats.co.za will follow the matter and provide an update when the case returns to court in November.
