The South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF) has officially cleared former chairperson Makhudu Sefara of allegations regarding the misappropriation of funds. Despite being exonerated by an internal investigation, Sefara has confirmed he will not resume his leadership role within the organisation.

The council initiated a formal probe after allegations surfaced in August 2015 concerning the management of specific forums funds. Following weeks of scrutiny, the council determined that the financial misconduct claims against Sefara were entirely without merit.
SANEF council has concluded its investigation and found that the allegations of financial misconduct against Sefara are unfounded.
Decision And Future Implications
Sefara, a respected figure in the South African media industry, stepped down temporarily during the investigation as a precautionary measure. He expressed that his decision to permanently vacate the seat is intended to protect the integrity of the forum and minimise potential distractions.
I have decided that, in the interest of the organisation and to ensure that I do not become a distraction, I will not be returning to the position of chairperson.
