Three Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers rescued a newborn baby girl from an open field in Doornfontein on the night of Monday, 13 July 2026. The infant, who had been abandoned in a plastic bag, was found near the intersection of Saratoga Avenue and Hadfield Street after members of the public alerted authorities to the sound of a crying baby.
