The list of countries ready to join the BRICS alliance in 2024 is expanding rapidly. Many developing nations are drawn to BRICS due to its efforts to advance the de-dollarization agenda. The alliance is promoting the use of local currencies for trade, aiming to strengthen native economies.
Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister and BRICS Sherpa, Sergey Ryabkov, confirmed the increasing interest. He revealed that in 2024 alone, around 10 new countries have expressed their desire to join the BRICS alliance.
“Over the years of cooperation in BRICS, a very positive and unique culture of dialogue has developed. We have established truly trusting relations,” said Sergey.
He further added,
“This approach is already bearing fruit. After the enlargement, we see a growing interest of developing countries in deepening cooperation with the BRICS alliance.”
Currently, 30 countries have formally submitted applications to join BRICS, while another 15 nations have informally shown interest. Developing countries seek to strengthen their local currencies and reduce reliance on the US dollar for trade. They view BRICS as a vital opportunity to achieve their de-dollarization goals.
“More than 30 countries have already expressed such interest, and this list continues to grow,” Ryabkov pointed out.
The alliance appears to have no shortage of countries eager to join in 2024. The decision to induct new members will be based on consensus among the existing members.
The likelihood of a new BRICS expansion during the 2024 summit is high. The 16th summit is scheduled to be held in October 2024 in Russia’s Kazan region.
