Government Launches Massive Entry-Level Jobs For 2026

The Department of Water and Sanitation is seeking applicants for a range of entry-level positions across South Africa. These roles are open to candidates with Grade 12 or lower qualifications. Applications close on 24 April 2026.

Entry Level Opportunities Across Provinces

The Department is offering several posts under its Infrastructure Management branch, with positions available at dam and operational sites nationwide. Roles include Security Officer, Water Control Aid, and General Worker, each with specific requirements and responsibilities.

Security Officer Nkps At Jericho Dam

Four Security Officer (NKP) posts are available at Jericho Dam, with a salary of R193 359 per annum. Candidates must have a Grade 12 certificate, 1–3 years’ security experience, and a PSIRA Grade C certificate. Additional requirements include a Firearm Training Certificate, SAPS competency certificate, and a National Key Point certificate.

Key duties involve guarding departmental premises, enforcing access control, and operating control room equipment. Water Control Aid Positions At Multiple Dams

Fifteen Water Control Aid posts are available at sites including Hartbeespoort, Buffelspoort, Roodeplaat, Vaal Kop, Marico GWS, Klein Marico, and Lindleyspoort dams. The salary for these roles is R193 359 per annum. Minimum requirements include NQF Level 2, with Grade 12 or AET qualifications considered advantageous.

Successful candidates will operate sluices, conduct inspections, and maintain water distribution systems. The department states,

“Operate sluices and water distribution systems, conduct routine inspections and maintenance, clean canals, grids, and structures, report defects and irregularities, maintain equipment and infrastructure.”

General Worker Posts In Several Regions

There are six General Worker posts in Breede/Gouritz, Theewaterskloof, Clanwilliam Dam, and Vredendal Area Office, as well as nineteen posts at Marico Dam. The salary for these positions is R138 486 per annum. Applicants must have an ABET certificate, with relevant experience considered an advantage.

Duties include general maintenance, gardening, painting, and infrastructure inspections. The department outlines,

“Perform general maintenance (gardening, painting, weed control), inspect infrastructure such as dams, canals, and pipelines, report faults and hazards, load and offload equipment, comply with Occupational Health and Safety regulations.”
