Four Men Found Shot Dead in Walmer Gqeberha Under Police Investigation

Four men, aged between 20 and 30, were found dead with gunshot wounds in G-West, Walmer, Gqeberha at about 20:30 on Saturday, 12 September 2026. The bodies were discovered by a member of the public who alerted police to the scene.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa, confirmed the discovery on Sunday, 13 September. She said the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit has taken over the investigation.

“The victims, aged between 20 and 30, had gunshot wounds,” said Mawisa. “Police conducted enquiries in the surrounding areas in an effort to identify possible witnesses, but these yielded no positive results.”

The scene is in G-West, a residential pocket of Walmer, a suburb with a mix of formal housing and louder, denser blocks behind the industrial strip. A Walmer resident who called the Cape Flats News desk at 21:15 on Saturday night described hearing a flurry of shots before silence, but asked not to be named. “Thatha, that was not one gun, there were two sounds. Then nothing, no cars, no screaming, nothing,” the resident said.

The killings are not linked to a similar quadruple murder in April 2026 in the Airport Valley area, where two brothers and two teenage girls were shot dead. Police said no connection has been established between the two cases.

No arrests have been made. The victims have not yet been publicly identified, and next of kin are being traced. It is also not yet known whether the men were killed where they were found or moved there. The exact time of death and the sequence of events leading to the shooting remain under investigation.

Police have appealed to anyone with information to contact Lieutenant Colonel Monde Sithole on 082 457 2812 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Information can be given anonymously.

Captain Thabo Nkosi, a former detective commander in Gqeberha now consulting on violent crime cases, told Cape Flats News that four bodies in one scene typically points to a targeted hit or a dispute over territory. “One body is a fight, two is a quarrel, four is a message,” Nkosi said. “The shooter or shooters came prepared, and they left fast.”

The Walmer policing precinct has recorded several violent crimes this year. Community policing forums in the area have asked for additional patrols near the G-West blocks after a series of robberies and two shootings earlier in 2026. Police have not released updated crime statistics for the Gqeberha–Nelson Mandela Bay metro for the second quarter of this year.

This report is based on official SAPS Eastern Cape statements and a logged community tip from a Walmer resident. Cape Flats News journalists were not on the scene on Saturday night and the investigation is ongoing. We will check with SAPS Gqeberha for developments on Monday morning.
