A 42-year-old man was killed by a mob in Forest Village, Eerste River, on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, after he was accused of kidnapping and raping a three-year-old girl. The child had been reported missing by her father at the Kleinvlei Police Station before she was discovered by community members in a wooded area near Hood Street.
Police Confirm Separate Investigations
Following the discovery of the child, who sustained multiple injuries and was subsequently hospitalised for medical examination, the suspect was confronted and killed by a group of local residents. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has since confirmed that two distinct investigations are underway regarding the sequence of events.
The alleged rape case has been transferred to the Kuils River Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit to ensure a specialised investigation. Simultaneously, the police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death at the hands of the mob.

Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk has issued a stern warning regarding the rise of vigilante violence in the region, noting that acts of retaliation undermine the rule of law. The mother of the young victim expressed deep anguish over the incident, stating that the crime had stolen her daughter’s future.
